Frustration

Well, the company I work for has decided to farm me out on contract work for the next year. So, today I have been sent back to state-world. I have been contracted to do some JAVA work and training for the Florida Dept of Revenue. Apparantly they are using ColdFusion and want to move to a JAVA development environment. Now .. From what I understand the final output of ColdFusion 5.0 is JAVA. They use ColdFusion as the development tool of choice and are very comfortable with it. Now they want to move to using IBM'S Visual Age for JAVA as the key development platform. They have also purchased our Jumpstart kit which will help them along the way. Which is where I come in, I'll be helping them get all setup and accustomed to the new environment.

Right now I am stuck in the corner of an office with another 4 people. I have 'of course' the crappiest desk and chair, I don't even have a phone. They say this is just a 'temporary' spot and that I'll have a more permanent home soon. Yea, right I know what it's like here in these state office buildings, people who have been there the longest get the best space then the rest is thrown out like scraps to a pack of wild dogs to fight over. Hopefully by the end of the day I'll be able to connect my laptop to the network and have a servicable connection. I have a feeling I am going to be stuck behind firewall hell and find it impossible to connect back to my company to get information needed for this gig. The work environment as far as people are concerned is fine, the everyone I have met has been very nice.

Now don't get me wrong, I know I may sound like I am bitching a bunch about the position. It's just I feel that my skill set will be wasted by the end of the year. The first part of the year should be ok, when I am helping to setup the servers, helping to figure out what is need and designing the application, but once they want me to start TEACHING these folks JAVA, well that's another story. I haven't done any serious JAVA in over a year, and it's not like I was very good at it to begin with, I am an adequate JAVA developer at best.

Well, I found out after lunch that contract isn't even complete yet, I am not even supposed to be onsite yet. But everyone jumped the gun and wants me there ASAP. Meanwhile since I am not supposed to be onsite I can't get an ID card to get into the building, so I have to use the visitor entrance (opposite side of the building from available parking) .. feh
