Over the next week or so, I'm gonna try to put my thoughts down on my vacation. Here are my first impressions of Dalsgaard (where my family are caretakers).
Oh my gosh, it is such a wonderful place. It's an old farmstead that has been in production since the 1400's. It's up on a hill above Hadsund, and if you go up the hill behind the Manor house (they call it 'the North Pole' because it's one of the highest points around this area)you can get a wonderful view of the fields and the fjord.
There is the main Manor House, the Caretakers house (where the family lives) and 4 barn/utility buildings (all of them larger than the main house). The Manor house is a two story affair. Lots of small rooms, slowly it is being renovated. They had to replace the foundation on the house last year as it was beginning to crumble. We went up to 'the North Pole' one day, it was a rainy day and Jan gave me, Jacob and Dad a ride up the hill in the car. I had twisted my knee the a few days it still hurt tremendously to put weight on it while bent (say if you're climbing stairs).
What a beautiful sight it is up there, it looks down into the fjord and it takes your breath away. To get to the good view you get out of the hay/wheat fields and into the cow pasture. While we were standing there admiring the view the cows noticed we were there and came a running. Funny, you could feel the earth shake a bit, it was a bit intimidating so we took the opportunity to beat a hasty retreat behind the electric fence.
Mormor says there are ghosts here I have no doubts about that, the whole place vibrates with energy from people being here for so long. I really would be interested in getting a metal detector and wandering the grounds, I'll bet there is all types of interesting things just buried out there beneath the lawn. She says that many times they will be in the living room and see someone walk up to the front door, but when they get to the front door there is no-one there. Pernille saw someone standing out in the courtyard one day but when she turned to see who it was there they were gone, since you can hear anyone walking on the gravel and she didn't hear anyone so, her assumption was that it must have been a ghost.
