Monk and Coltrane

Heard about this last night on NPRs All Things Considered.

Wow, what a show that must have been. The interview said Billie Holiday, Ray Charles, Monk, John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins were just some of the performers on stage that night.

Blue Note Records has released the Monk tracks (with John Coltrane) on CD. I've GOT to get this to add to my collection.

I've been a Miles Davis fan for a long time, but Monk holds a special place in my head. More often than not it seems lately he's playing my background soundtrack. No songs specifically, just him...

Cub loves Coltrane .. he learned about him with one of his favorite Chris Raschka books - John Coltranes's Giant Steps. I bought the CD to listen to while reading the book. Now he listens to 'Trane all by himself. God love that boy.
