karass

There we were Dan, Tiffany, Scott and I walking thru the vender area after the show, and a person that is in Dan,Tiff and I's 'karass'* appears out of thin air. We were actually headed out of the scene, headed towards the car, to check on the kiddies and relax, when someone grabs Tiffany and screams her name.

Rachel ..

Funny, none of us had seen her for years, last we all had heard she was living in Arizona on the Navajo reservation. We had all talked about her on the ride over to the concert, laughed and had lots of good thoughts about her. Maybe we conjoured her up..

It was good to see her, she came by Tiff's house this morning and we all sat around and chatted for a few hours. She just fit right back in like she had only been gone on a trip .. Thinking about it, I KNOW I haven't seen her in 10 years .. wow ..

When we all left everyone hugged and promised to keep in better contact. Pamela and Rachel cried and both of them exclaimed that they felt they had know each other all their lives.

* - Kurt Vonnegut, one of the greatest authors of the 20th century, wrote about something called a karass in his book Cat's Cradle. A karass, according to Mr. Vonnegut, is at team that "does God's Will without ever discovering what they are doing." Put simply, a karass is a group of people who are knowingly, or unknowingly, working together as a single parts of a small, or large, group to affect the world. The world, in turn, is full of countless karass' that work in unison, unknowingly, to keep the world spinning and hurtling on towards the end (it's all but proven that the universe won't collapse back into itself, but rather it will continue to expand until all matter is so far removed from other matter that everything freezes...nice fate, eh?). This line of thinking means that each person is at the very least a part of one karass, but could have an affect on n others. This is akin to the ideas put forth in the very essay that spawned this whole project.

I got that definition from here

Here is another good link to understand the word.

and finally .. go buy the book
