imagination

imagination

In the past few weeks I've noticed that Jacob has begun .... 'playing', is that right? No .. how about.. 'using his imagination' for play. Now, he's been using the imagination for a while (he's been play cooking for a few months now). All babies/toddlers play, but most of the early play is really exploration, what is this, how does it work? Even when they push a truck around on the floor I think it's more to see how it works and examine the whole aspect of rolling.

But the other day he was actually playing something. He was acting like a puppy, I guess its one of the early things that toddlers do, he was barking and panting, and he likes to put his plate down on the floor and eat like a dog. Of course this may be taught behavior from Sophie so that she can easily eat the leftovers when he's done. That dog is such a good dog, she loves that boy as if it was her own. I think she really takes responsibilty for him, whenever we are playing and he whacks us we try to respond with an 'OW' to show that it hurts and you shouldn't do it, she immediately comes up and sniffs us and licks our hands to apologize.
"I'm sorry, it's my fault, don't be angry with the boy, beat me instead"

Many times it gets hard to show Jacob whats going on because Sophie is interjecting herself between us. She will studiously get between us and the boy until we tell her that it's ok and she's doing a fine job protecting Jacob.

He's also taken to imitating sleep, he loves to lie down on the floor with me and act like sleep (snoring, head down, eyes closed, the whole bit). I wonder where he gets that snoring from? Must be his momma .. ;)

He's also finally 'discovered' the building blocks that we have, he's been building towers of Legos and then knocking them down again. Build up, knock down, Build up, knock down, Build up, knock down Pamela says this goes on for hours on end during the day.
