There's all sorts of hoopla afoot today -- political demonstrations, pray-ins, marches, vigils. Some people, in a remarkable display of poor taste, are even "celebrating" with fireworks. What they're celebrating, I'm not sure. That the number of Afghani civilians dead at our hands is greater than the number of American civilians who died on this day?
Me, I'm going to hold my baby in my arms, and hold the babies of other mothers in my thoughts. Even the babies who grew up to be so desperate, so bitter and wretched that they could think of no other solution than to kill other mother's babies. No fireworks here.
