Pics on the left
The building on the left with the hole in it is a picture I took while in Hong Kong this spring. We were over at Repulse Bay and this was one of the hotels there along the beach. The tour guide said the reason for the whole was a matter of Feng Shui. The hole allowed the spirits of the mountain to come down to the water. Without the hole in the hotel their access would be blocked.
The funky looking building was in central Hong Kong, it’s actually a set but I couldn’t get a good angle for that. You can almost see that it's two buildings in this shot. ( BWG has a great picture right on his main page. You can see the pair of buildings (down by his crotch) and the Bank of China building is the tall one in the center. He also has a cartoon further down the page where he’s leaning against the Bank of China building.) It is right down next to the Bank of China building which is the common building that you usually see when they show pictures of Hong Kong. It’s so famous that it is on their money.
ONE of the strange things in Hong Kong is that different banks print the money, the Bank of China prints some and then others print some. So you end up with a wallet full of bills that are of the same denomination but look completely different.
As I strolled around the neighborhood I was staying in I spied an infamous 7-11 and had to take a peek to see what was sold in there. Now this store was no larger than 7' x 12' (very small), I am used to much larger stores. Sidenote - While I am used to larger stores, they tend to be run with just one clerk. Here this tiny little store had 3 clerks running it, I am going to guess a family. While the normal U.S. mini-market is FULL of junk food, this one seemed to be more just full of stuff. Yes, there was some convenience foods there, but really there seemed to be more 'things', like CD's, DVD's, cheap little toys, and then day to day living items. I guess I had envisioned a little bit more of a 'high tech' type of store. That'll teach me read William Gibson and Neal Stephenson.
The shot of Pamela is one I caught one Saturday afternoon right after a nice rainstorm had passed through. She and Jacob ran out and stomped around in the puddles in our driveway. The look of joy on her face is so wonderful I had to share it.
This is one of my absolute favorite shots of Jacob. He had just gotten out of the tub and was all bundled up in the typical baby towel. I snapped a quick shot of him. I always think ‘Hobbit’ when I see this picture.
